12 Week Groups
12 Week Groups:
DBT Skill Based
The 12-Week Skills Group is a program developed for adults and adolescents to provide immediate DBT skills and skills practice to those struggling with big emotions and unwanted behaviors. Modified from the skills component of the comprehensive DBT program for immediate support, it provides an opportunity to build your skillset and reduce acuity.
The 12-week group is a program developed to provide support and skills as a standalone program. Data supports that a skills only group can effectively “reduce psychological distress, depression, borderline symptomatology and functional impairment…studies show increases in ‘skills use’ and decreases in ‘dysfunctional coping’”.
The 12-week group can be repeated for a second round. The second round of skills continues to introduce new skills from all four modules of the DBT skills library, including emotional regulation, distress tolerance, mindfulness and interpersonal effectiveness skills that build on the first round of skills.
The 12-week group is 90 minutes 1x weekly, both virtual and in-person,
and offers two key components: skills and support.
Skills from the four modules of the Comprehensive DBT curriculum include
Mindfulness;
Distress tolerance;
Emotion regulation
Interpersonal effectiveness.
30-minute skill support sessions with a highly trained DBT therapist, accessible when you miss a group session, need support to understand better what you have learned or need help with completing your homework from the group.
During your participation in this group, you do not have access to an individual therapist for non-skills group-related therapeutic needs. Should you need added support, we strongly encourage an outside therapist during your participation in 12 weeks. We can provide referral sources for organizations with immediate openings for individual therapists.
